You can load JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF and GIF, as long as your browser can decode them. Animated GIFs are handled as a single still frame, because a browser canvas cannot re-encode animation. Output is WebP, JPEG, or the original type when it is already JPEG, PNG or WebP.

PNG is a lossless format, and a browser canvas can only write it losslessly, so a quality slider would do nothing. We do not pretend otherwise: for a PNG that you keep as PNG, only resizing reduces the file. For photos, converting to WebP or JPEG typically cuts the size by 60-80% with no visible difference.

At quality 80 the difference is usually invisible on screen; lower values trade detail for size, and the preview shows exactly what you get. Your original file is never modified: you download a new copy. Re-encoding also strips EXIF metadata such as GPS coordinates and camera serial numbers, which is a nice privacy win before posting a photo publicly.
