Last Frame Extractor

Because asking a browser or a player to jump to the very end of a clip usually lands past the last decoded picture: the container duration is often a few milliseconds longer than the final frame, and the decoder answers with an empty or stale image. This tool steps back from the end in small increments, checks whether what it drew actually contains anything, and only accepts a blank result when the clip genuinely fades to black.

It is the last frame the decoder will present. The timestamp shown under the image is where it actually landed, so you can see for yourself — it is typically within a few hundredths of a second of the clip's end, and on a normal 24–30 fps video that is the final frame.

Because frame chaining runs in both directions. The first frame is what you need to check that a new clip really starts where the previous one stopped, and it is also the frame you feed backwards if you are building a sequence in reverse or filling a gap between two existing shots.

PNG. The frame is going straight back into a generative model, and a JPEG re-encode adds artefacts around edges and flat areas that the model will happily amplify into the next clip. PNG is lossless, so the hand-off starts from exactly the pixels the previous video ended on. JPG and WebP are there for when you just want to post the frame somewhere.

The join is as good as the model you use. Handing over the exact last frame removes the biggest source of a visible jump, but image-to-video models re-encode and may shift colour or grain slightly, and none of them guarantee a frame-perfect continuation. Keeping the same aspect ratio and resolution between clips helps a lot; a short cross-dissolve in your editor hides whatever is left.
