HEIC to JPG Without Losing EXIF

No. Decoding and re-encoding both happen inside your browser tab. Open DevTools, switch to the Network tab and convert a file: the only request you will ever see is the decoder itself, never a byte of your picture. That matters here, because HEIC files are usually personal photos of family, documents or the inside of your home.

Anything phones and cameras write as HEIF: .heic, .heif, .hif and the burst variants .heics and .heifs. You get JPG, PNG or WebP back. AVIF files look similar from the outside but are a different format, and your browser already opens those — so the tool says so instead of converting them.

Up to 50 MB per photo and 30 photos per batch, which covers any iPhone still, including 48 MP shots. Photos are converted strictly one at a time, so a full batch never tries to hold thirty decoded images in memory; on a phone a large batch simply takes a little longer.

The image is decoded and re-encoded once, so a lossy format like JPG or WebP goes through a single generation of compression. At the default quality of 90 that is invisible on screen and in print. Lower the slider for a smaller file, or pick PNG for a pixel-exact copy. Do expect the JPG to be bigger than the HEIC: HEIC is simply the more efficient codec, which is why Apple switched to it.

Yes, by default — and that is the part most converters get wrong. The EXIF block is read straight out of the HEIC and written into the JPG, so the capture date, camera, lens and GPS coordinates all survive and your photo library still sorts the pictures by the day you took them. One tag is changed on purpose: the orientation flag is reset to upright, because the picture has already been rotated while decoding and leaving the old flag in place would make viewers turn it a second time. If you would rather not say where a photo was taken, the "Remove GPS location" switch deletes the coordinates and keeps everything else. And if you want no metadata at all, turn EXIF off — or pick PNG or WebP, which come out bare either way.

A HEIC container can hold several pictures: a burst, the stills of a Live Photo, or a depth companion image. The converter takes the primary image, the one the Photos app shows as the photo, and the result row tells you how many were inside. Extracting every frame of a burst is not supported.
