No. The only network request this page makes is the one-time download of the AI model from our asset server. Open DevTools, switch to the Network tab and remove a background: you will not see a single request carrying your image. Once the model is cached the tool even works with the network switched off.

JPG, PNG, WebP and AVIF, up to 30 MB each and 10 images per batch, processed one after another. You get a transparent PNG back, or a JPG when you choose a solid background colour.

With WebGPU — a recent Chrome or Edge on a machine with a normal GPU — roughly a second or two. On the CPU fallback expect 10 to 40 seconds per image on a laptop or phone. The page shows which one it is using. The model itself is about 88 MB and downloads once, then stays in your browser cache.

Anything above 4096 pixels on its long edge is scaled down to that before the cutout, which keeps a 50-megapixel file from exhausting the tab's memory. Below that limit your image keeps its full resolution: only the transparency comes from the model, the colours are your original pixels untouched.

Yes, that is what the two sliders are for. Cleanup pushes the half-transparent pixels along the outline to fully visible or fully gone, which kills the halo. Edge softness then puts a 1 to 3 pixel feather back on so the cutout does not look like it was cut with scissors. Both re-render instantly because the mask is reused.

A clear main subject: people, products, pets, logos, furniture. Fine hair, fur, glass, smoke and heavy motion blur are hard for any single-pass model and may come out rough. For those we also run a server-side HD background remover that uses a much heavier model — it is the paid version of this page, and it is worth it only for the difficult shots.

It does, in a recent Safari or Chrome. Phones usually take the CPU path, so a single image takes tens of seconds, and the 88 MB model download is worth doing on Wi-Fi. If you are on a phone, work through a couple of images at a time rather than a batch of ten.
