Length sets where the locs end: Short stops at the shoulders, Medium (the default) reaches mid-back and Long goes down to the waist. Thickness sets how chunky each loc is. Thin gives many fine locs, Medium is the default, and Thick gives fewer, heavier ones. The thickness field also takes your own wording, so you can type something like "pencil-thin" or "very chunky" if the presets aren't quite right.

The AI can only show length that fits inside the picture. With a headshot there is no back or waist in frame, so long locs end at the image edge. GPT Image 2.5 also returns a square image, which crops tall photos. For Medium or Long, upload a half-body or full-body shot and use Nano Banana 2.1, which usually keeps your original framing. For a tight selfie, Short reads best.

Yes. The filter replaces the whole hairstyle, so you don't need long or textured hair to start with. With very short hair the AI has to invent all the length, and the hairline can shift a little. There is no colour setting: the locs usually take on your current hair colour. Highlights, ombré or bright dyed ends may come out simplified, so check that part of the result.

It's a good way to compare lengths and thicknesses on your own face, but it always shows mature, fully formed locs. Real ones take months to years to get there, and how they turn out depends on your hair type and the starting method, such as two-strand twists, interlocking or freeform. Show the image to your loctician as a reference for the look you want, not as a promise of the result.
